Kaitlyn Hunt : Teenage Love Gone Bad

I can not stop thinking about Kaitlyn Hunt, an 18 year old senior from Florida.  She was about to graduate with the world before her when her life came to a screeching halt.  Until recently, she was probably planning her graduation, the upcoming summer and collage.  She doesn't do drugs, drink, or have a criminal record.  So why would this girl be facing 15 years in prison?  Apparently, Kaitlyn had a crush on the wrong person.  Most of us meet our high school sweethearts and have our first kiss, our first heartbreak....Well, Kaitlyn's could cost her the rest of her life.  Her high school crush is  a  15 year old girl.  This 15 year old's parents apparently have a problem with the fact that their daughter may be gay.  So they are choosing to ruin the rest of  Kaitlyn's life.

Kaitlyn is being charged with two counts of lewd and lascivious battery of a child.  This will make her a sex offender for the rest of her life and could cost her 15 years of her life.  Not only will her life be ruined but her future children's lives could also be ruined.  Think about it....as a parent, I check the sex offender registry.  I take it seriously.  Now, if this girl gets convicted of these crimes (which I pray she doesn't), how will I ever be able to take this registry serious?  Are they saying that this 18 year old girl should be classified with child molesters and rapists?  This is a case of a teenage girl exploring her sexuality. Then again, Florida's record with crime is not very credible.  This is the state that let Casey Anthony, a baby killer, walk but they want to put Kaitlyn Hunt in jail.  Really???

We teach our kids that they shouldn't judge others based on race, religion or sexuality.  Then we have parents like this who take their hate and use it to destroy innocent lives. I would LOVE to sit with these people and let them know that karma is not friendly.  They can push to ruin a child's life but what good is it going to do?  If their daughter is gay, its not going to change that. As a matter if fact, I'm pretty sure that their daughter probably wont be a part of their lives for long after her own 18th birthday.  I can't imagine putting a teenager through something like this.  Don't our teen's have enough to deal with?  I would ask the parents that are pressing charges against Kaitlyn to consider the fact that this could be their daughter some day.  How would they feel in the shoes of Kaitlyn's parents right now?  This is so wrong....It is beyond my comprehension that something like this is happening in 2013!!!

The fact is that these girls are classmates.  Peers!!!  If its not legal for them to date, why do they attend the same school?   This is wrong on so many levels.
Please sign this petition letting the state of Florida know that it's time they start putting real criminals away and leave Kaitlyn Hunt Alone!!!!

This girl is NOT a sex offender and it's offending that she possibly could be classified as one.  Being gay or bisexual does NOT make you a criminal!!!!  Even less so, a teenager experimenting with their sexuality. Our kids deserve better!!!!

  1. The irony here is you SUPPORT the very thing that made the Kaitlyn Hunt prosecution possible-- the public sex offender registry. Thousands of teens and barely-adults have landed on the list for the exact circumstances, both gay and straight.

The more faces on that list, the more money states get. As FloriDUH was in a statistical deadheat with Michigan over sex offender money, Florida has inflated the stats by adding deceased, out-of-state, incarcerated, and deported registrants to the list. Ka-ching!

Since many states abolished "statutory crimes" in the wake of Predator Panics, teens in consenaual relations are charged with adult crimes of "rape" or, in Kate's case, the ominous sounding "sexual battery." So when you look on the registry and see that statute, don't assume child molester (which is likely what you've been doing).

  2. Wow. Seriously? You are aware that she could have "explored her sexuality" with someone who was not a 14-year-old child, right? THAT'S what this is about, not the gender, as much as the Hunts would like to focus on that. What she did was illegal, period. People who drop out and go back to school or are for some reason behind can be in public high school until they are 20 or 21. Would that be ok with you as well? A 20/21 year old having sex with a 14-year-old? Based on your rationale of "The fact is that these girls are classmates. Peers!!! If its not legal for them to date, why do they attend the same school?", you would defend that too. I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that you don't have children. I hope in the future, if you do choose to have any, you have no problem with an adult diddling your 14 year old child.

  3. Actually, Julia, I have kids. Two daughters, a son and a step son. And while I wouldn't agree to my fourteen year old having consensual sex, I wouldn't ruin another childs life, male or female, for doing something that they alone were not responsible for. And its NOT about gender, that we agree with....again, boy or girl, you put kids together but you expect them to know right from wrong? Most ADULTS don't know right from wrong.
Kaitlyn is not a pedophile. She shouldn't be labeled as one because she has feelings for a classmate.

  4. Parents need to be more involved with their kids...teach them right from wrong. Not blame everyone else when their kids do something wrong.

  5. I may be mistaken, but I believe it would be 30 years. In reading the statutes, I think it calls for 15 years as a sentence, but on each count, of which Kaitlyn faces 2.

And on another conversation (perhaps a YouTube comments section?)I was becoming frustrated with a troll that insisted on shouting down EVERYONE that didn't automatically agree with everything he said. He kept insisting that Kaitlyn was 'a pedophile', and that she and her family wouldn't be satisfied until "NAMBLA had free access to rape all the kids they wanted". So, I asked him what the solution was? Got a little mean after that, and snarkily asked if he would be satisfied with this: Boot all 18 year olds out of schools. Doesn't matter if they've finished with their education, or even if it was the middle of the school year. Was so incensed by his nastiness that I had to stop short of asking if he would only be satisfied when someone puts a gun in his hand for Kaitlyn's firing squad. Never got a reply after that. Any thoughts?
